Biggest UK Shipping Event

The biggest promotional UK shipping event in recent history will be kicked-off by Shipping Minister John Hayes next week.

The world famous London International Shipping Week (LISW) will be attended by delegates from at least 50 countries including more than 15 foreign ministers from the likes of Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Ghana.

The government will host bilateral meetings with politicians and senior industry figures to explore partnerships, future opportunities outside the European Union and how to help significantly boost maritime exports.

The week also will feature more than 150 industry functions with an estimated 15,000 industry leaders from around the world expected to attend.

Minister John Hayes will officially open the week on Monday by ringing the London Stock Exchange bell.

On the same day, the Transport Secretary Chris Grayling and International Trade Secretary Liam Fox will host a meeting with international industry figures at 10 Downing Street on Monday (September 11, 2017) to kick-off the event.

The meeting will strengthen the partnership with investors and UK exporters and identify post-EU exit opportunities.

Shipping Minister John Hayes said:“London International Shipping Week is the most special and extraordinary promotional opportunity for the maritime industry in recent history.

“For the UK to seize the promise and the opportunities after our exit from the EU we must draw on our glorious past, by rejuvenating our heritage to once again be a truly global, seafaring, trading nation.

“We must, in Churchill’s famous phrase, “choose the open sea.”

Shipping Week will run from 11 to 15 September and events throughout the week will amount to more than 410 hours of discussions.

Dr Liam Fox MP, will deliver the keynote address at the flagship LISW17 conference to be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on London’s Park Lane, on Thursday 14th September. The International Trade Secretary will speak about the future of international trade and its impact on the global shipping sector.

This will be followed by a gala dinner which will be attend by an estimated 1,000 industry leaders.

LISW is held every two years and began in 2013. This year is all about the business of shipping and London and the UK’s role globally.

The week’s theme of ‘Tomorrow’s Maritime World’ will be debated by some of the most current and sought-after specialists from industry, shipping and government to produce one of the most insightful, informative and thought-provoking conferences ever.
