Volumes Keep Growing



The Port of Los Angeles’ container volumes climbed by 9.5 percent during the first seven months of the calendar year 2017, compared to the same period a year earlier.

Through July, total 2017 cargo volumes stood at 5.3 million TEUs, a change of 457,884 TEUs when compared to 4.8 million TEUs recorded in the seven-month period of 2016.

Last year, the port handled a record-breaking 8.8 million TEUs.

What is more, July container volumes at the port rose by 16 percent compared to July 2016 volumes. During the month, 796,804 TEUs came through the Port of Los Angeles, representing the busiest July in the port’s 110-year history.

July loaded imports increased by 13 percent to 417,090 TEUs. Loaded exports rose by 17 percent to 154,925 TEUs. Along with a 20 percent spike in empty containers, overall July container volumes were 796,804 TEUs.

Previously, the strongest July in port history was 2006, when 761,326 TEUs were moved through the port’s terminals.
